Genesis 3: The Curse, the Serpent, Eve, and Adam

God's judgment in Genesis 3 reads like the end of the story, but it's actually the beginning of the solution. This episode takes a deeper dive into verses 14 through 24, the curses pronounced on the serpent, the woman, and the man, and the first promise of a rescuer tucked directly inside them. **The Serpent's Curse: From Beautiful to Debased** The curse on the serpent isn't about snake anatomy. It's about total humiliation, a being who saw himself as elevated now placed at the very bottom of everything. **Genesis 3:15: The First Gospel, Hidden in a Curse** Right inside the judgment on the serpent is the protoevangelium, the very first promise of a rescuer in Scripture. The offspring of the woman will be wounded, but the serpent will be dealt a fatal blow. **Pain, Childbirth, and a Relationship Now in Conflict** Eve's role as mother isn't erased by the curse, but it now carries real pain. We look closely at the debated second half of verse 16 and what "desire" and "rule" actually mean here, especially compared to how the same word appears with Cain in the next chapter. **The Ground Itself Is Cursed** Adam's punishment reaches into the realm he was placed in charge of. Farming that once came with ease now comes with thorns, toil, and no guarantee of a harvest. **Every Relationship Broken** The serpent, the woman, the man, the ground, and above all, humanity's relationship with God, every connection takes damage in this passage. Sin isn't a single cost, it's a fracture running through the whole web. **God's Provision Before the Exile** Before Adam and Eve ever leave the garden, God clothes them himself, at the cost of an animal's life, and the exile that looks like banishment is actually protection from being locked into a broken state forever.
